Safe Dates Curriculum in Middle Schools
Safe Dates is a nationally recognized prevention program that helps middle school students learn what healthy relationships look like and how to recognize the warning signs of dating violence. Offered locally in Haywood County, the program provides young people with tools they can carry into adolescence and adulthood.
Through engaging discussion and activities, students learn about respect, communication, personal boundaries, managing emotions, recognizing abusive behaviors, sexual assault awareness, and how to help a friend who may be experiencing harm.
While Safe Dates does not encourage dating for young teens, it helps prepare students for future relationships rooted in safety and respect. The program can also serve as a first step toward support for students who may already be experiencing violence or sexual harm.
Safe Dates is available beyond public schools. REACH encourages participation from private schools, after-school programs, youth groups, and faith-based organizations. By helping teens, parents, and grandparents understand the warning signs of teen dating violence, we work to build a healthier and safer community from the ground up.
